Rogue One: The Imperial Command

Description

I've seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story twice so far. It's good but not great, though it does make the top five in terms of good Star Wars movies albeit being in 4th place. Unlike The Force Awakens, it gets off at a slow clunky start, randomly jumping from planet to planet ( one's name was an anagram for Obi Wan) and introducing too many characters. I'll say this, the side characters and villains are by far the best characters. the main leads Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor are mostly......(shrugs without even caring)eh? I'm sorry but they are just nowhere as good as Finn and Rey in last years excellent outing A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away, nor are do they have the depth, complexity, charm, or personality that Finn and Rey had. Don't get me wrong, the actors playing Jyn and Cassian do fine with what they're given, it's just the screenwriters could have done a little better to make them more interesting and likable. They could have at the very least made them like Han Solo (not a lot of depth or layers (except in The Force Awakens) though still memorable thanks to having a lot of charm and personality), but they didn't. Seriously it shouldn't have been that hard to do. The climax is the best part, especially that terrifyingly brutal Ridley Scott's Alien-esque slaughter that Darth Vader delivered....I think I might do some fanart of just that scene sometime soon.

In the end it was like Jurassic World where it's not as good as its predecessors but still a good film in its own right and the best part is around the end with Vader and the X Wing space battle and the ground   battles. It was also like the original Sleeping Beauty from Disney where the main leads were not very interesting but the side characters and villains stole the show, and the climax here like in Sleeping Beauty was amazing. The best side character was definitely the droid K-2SO played by Alan Tudyk ( who seems to be involved in a lot Disney projects these days: Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Zootopia, Rogue One, Star vs The Forces of Evil, etc.). The two guardians of the Whills Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus as well as former Imperial pilot Bodhi Rook are pretty cool too. Same goes for Forest Whittaker as Saw Guererra (even though he had such little screen time that the character felt kind of pointless to the context of the story). Pacing wise, it's well known that Director Gareth Edwards' films start off slow but pick up around the middle or third act (ex. 2014's Godzilla reboot, but I'm more forgiving of that film because it was a kaiju film/monster movie and you don't want to show too much of the monster (epic buildup)...same goes for Darth Vader. The idea of Less is More can actuallly work to a film's advantage in some cases, and it did here)

Darth Vader, Orson Krennic and Wilhuff Tarkin all belong to Disney and Lucasfilm.
